I thought because I was reading all this theory and (if you consider Jessica Valenti and Film Theory academic) Hell, I like reading to connect things to what I am learning about in class. Items are listed alphabetically; any thematic classification is left to the curiosity of the reader. Reading it, I felt the pieces being put into place, and my instinctive scepticism about film theory finally getting the thorough, systematic justification I had been craving. Or learning about things we only brush upon in class. When I was reading that novel, It didn't seem like work. (1997) Feminism, Feminist Cinema, and “Thelma and Louise”: A View from Cybernetics. What I was missing was reading. Sure I was analyzing it, but it was quick and fun read. I realized I missed reading for fun. Other items belongs to semiology and film theory, that use psychoanalytic concepts in their analysis: for instance, Christian Metz , one of the most widely known semiologists interested in film, drew much on Lacan's theory; or Ikon – a Journal hosting articles in the fields of .. Wouldn't want to generalise about the standing of such theory today, but I doubt it has the same stranglehold of the centre of debate it did when Carroll wrote; having said that, there's still plenty of it in the Theory gene pool, often cross-bred with other approaches such as postmodernism and feminism).
